Introduction

Kata Hajdu is a ceramic artist working with clay as her primary material in her own studio in Jászfényszaru. She began working with ceramics in 2009 and obtained her professional qualification through the Kresz Mária Foundation. Her work is rooted in modern ceramic design, while often drawing on folk motifs that she reinterprets to meet contemporary needs. Her hand-shaped and fired ceramic objects regularly appear at exhibitions and craft events in the Jászság region, as well as at recurring fairs in Austria and Germany. Alongside functional and decorative ceramics, she also creates ceramic jewellery with a distinctive personal character.

Thematic relevance

Kata’s practice contributes to the valorisation of heritage crafts by combining traditional ceramic techniques with contemporary design and sustainable values. She works with both low- and high-fire processes, using slab-building and wheel-throwing techniques, and places strong emphasis on material experimentation and innovation. As a certified craftsperson of the Duna–Ipoly National Park trademark, she draws inspiration from nature and reflects this connection in her products. Through workshops for beginners and advanced participants, as well as her earlier experience running an open studio in Germany, she actively supports knowledge sharing, skills transfer, and the living continuity of ceramic craftsmanship.
