Introduction

The Arts and Crafts Centre Škofja Loka has been operating since October 2011 as part of the Sora Development Agency. It provides support for the preservation and development of handicrafts in the Škofja Loka area and the wider Gorenjska region, while promoting sustainability and tourism. The centre fulfils its mission through various activities, such as documenting traditional skills to preserve intangible cultural heritage, establishing a network of local craftspeople, presenting handicraft exhibitions, organising events such as educational workshops and selling high-quality handicraft products. The centre is also part of the Consortium of Handicraft Centres of Slovenia.

Thematic relevance

The Arts and Crafts Centre Škofja Loka is a key player in the local development of activities that promote handicrafts and their values holistically. At its core, it builds on the strong presence of guilds and artisans from the Škofja Loka area, as well as a network of 25 craftspeople with valuable knowledge and skills. Since 2011, it has developed and carried out activities, inspiring domestic and international partnerships in cultural tourism, the cultural and creative industries, and the safeguarding of cultural heritage. It has also introduced new ideas to meet contemporary needs for knowledge transfer, sustainable development, local community inclusion, and intergenerational cooperation.
