Introduction

Museum of Polimlje was founded in 1955 as a regional museum, by the decision of National Committee for the County of Berane (former municipalities of Ivangrad, Andrijevica, Plav, Petnjica and Rozaje). The total material, about 10,000 museum objects, is divided into several collections:Archaeological - Historical- Ethnological- Heraldic- Arms collection. The representative objects from these collections are exhibited in the museum departments, in about forty glass cases.

Thematic relevance

The Polimlje Museum in Berane is highly relevant to the Bihor carpet because, as a regional museum institution, it is responsible for collecting, preserving, researching and presenting the cultural heritage of northern Montenegro. The Bihor carpet, as part of traditional craftsmanship and ethnographic heritage of the Bihor region, naturally fits within the museum’s scope through ethnological collections, documentation of weaving techniques, motifs and symbolism, as well as exhibitions and educational programmes. The museum can play a key role in the valorisation of the carpet through professional interpretation and promotion, cooperation with local weavers and the community, and by integrating the Bihor carpet into the region’s cultural and tourism offer.
