Introduction

Sibiu County Council is the local authority responsible for economic, social, cultural, educational, and infrastructure development at the county level. It has implemented EU-funded projects totalling over €180 million and, by using both national and European funds, plays a significant role in the county’s economic growth. The Council actively supports tourism and the preservation of cultural heritage, collaborating with local institutions. Its mission is to promote local communities, small businesses, and cultural initiatives, ensuring the sustainable development of the county.

Thematic relevance

Sibiu County Council is leading initiatives to valorise the traditional wool crafts through modern and creative applications, while also promoting the county’s cultural heritage and tourism potential. Together with local partners, including the ASTRA Museum, the Council is establishing contemporary “makers” hubs and workshops where young people and local artisans can learn traditional and modern wool-working techniques, develop new products, and explore innovative sales methods. By combining cultural preservation with tourism promotion, it aims to attract visitors, engage the younger generation, support local entrepreneurs, and increase the visibility of Sibiu County’s unique folk traditions, strengthening both the cultural and economic development of the region.
