The Hungarian Heritage House is a national institution founded by the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in 2001 to preserve and promote Hungarian folk tradition. HHH has three units: 1. Hungarian State Folk Ensemble nurtures the folklore treasury of the Carpathian Basin. The Ensemble's repertoire encompasses all genres related to folk tradition: historical music, authentic folk music and dance, as well as world music and traditional-based contemporary dance-shows.
2. Folklore Documentation Center aims to make the vast and precious collection on Hungarian folk treasury available to all interested parties. The Center is accessible on-line as well as in hard copies at the Corvin square seat of the HHH.
3. Applied Folk Arts Department organises professional courses for heritage crafts (building an accredited network for training the trainers), organises conferences, dance houses and play-houses.
Thematic relevance
The Folk Applied Art Department is supported by the Folk Applied Art Advisory Board judging e.g. crafts products. HHH has recently (2022) revised its operational concept by widening its scope of activity in geographical terms, expanding the applied networking model. HHH is the most recognized knowledge hub of folk traditions in the country with an extensive network of heritage organisations in the Carpathian Basin used for knowledge transferring, functioning channels of information flow and streamlining innovation. Its experience in organising types of training for various target groups is also a strength.
