Introduction

The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is responsible for administrative, professional and strategic tasks related to environmental protection and tourism development. Its mandate covers air, water and soil protection, the preparation and implementation of environmental policies, and the advancement of tourism and hospitality. A key focus of the Ministry’s work is the development and implementation of strategic frameworks that promote sustainable, responsible and value-based tourism, balancing environmental protection with economic development and community wellbeing.

Thematic relevance

The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism has strategic role in linking environmental protection with sustainable tourism development. Through the Tourism Development Strategy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022–2027, the Ministry promotes authentic local experiences, place-based branding and tourism products rooted in culture, folklore, crafts and rural life. By encouraging experience-based learning and work-based approaches, traditional crafts and local heritage gain potential to evolve into competitive tourism offerings. Through public calls, the Ministry co-finances projects that support cultural heritage preservation, strengthen local communities and enhance sustainable tourism products, contributing to resilient local economies and long-term heritage valorisation.
