Introduction
The Municipality of Jászberény (JBER – LP) is a mid-size local authority overseeing a town of 26,000 residents in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County, 80 km from Budapest. As the township seat, it manages public services, urban infrastructure, spatial planning, and ERDF/ESF projects. The city is a regional economic and educational hub, with strong industries in electronics, plastics, services, and retail, attracting workers from a wide area. It hosts secondary and vocational schools and a campus of the Eszterházy Catholic University. The municipality also cooperates actively with local cultural and community organisations to strengthen social cohesion and support regional development.
Thematic relevance
Jászberény and the wider Jászság region are nationally recognised for their strong Jász identity and rich cultural heritage rooted in centuries-old traditions. This heritage is upheld by active local heritage associations, the Jász Museum, and major cultural events such as the Csángó Festival, one of Hungary’s leading folk celebrations. The city is also a growing centre for crafts heritage through the Jászság Folk Art Workshop Association and the Roomli Creative Hub, both safeguarding traditional craftsmanship while promoting contemporary creative industries. These institutions and initiatives give Jászberény a distinctive cultural tourism profile and strengthen community involvement. The municipality’s long-term cultural commitment makes it a key factor in heritage preservation, sustainable tourism development, and creative sector growth.
