Introduction

Krisztina Paálné Major is a textile maker based in Jászárokszállás, originally from Jászberény, who has been creating unique textile-based functional items for more than ten years. Her work focuses on sewing and machine embroidery, through which she brings Jászság motifs and the visual heritage of traditional Jász costumes into contemporary everyday objects. What began as a personal creative practice gradually developed into a passionate vocation, and today she happily fulfils commissions and custom requests. Alongside her creative work, teaching plays an important role in her life, especially introducing children to the world of sewing.

Thematic relevance

Krisztina’s work contributes to the valorisation of heritage crafts by reinterpreting traditional Jászság motifs in a way that resonates with younger generations. Her personal mission is to create a bridge between generations: helping older audiences reconnect with familiar patterns while introducing young people to the region’s rich folk art heritage. Through her Öltögető sewing club, she actively supports skills transfer and hands-on learning. Deeply proud of her Jász identity, she sees it as both an honour and a responsibility to represent her region at home and abroad through her work, reflecting the strong, distinctive local identity embedded in the motifs she uses.
