Introduction

Stele House, located in the heart of Kamnik’s old town, is one of the oldest houses in the city and a valuable testimony to Kamnik’s cultural heritage. It houses a museum of candle-making and lectar techniques, and visitors can also see the oldest preserved black kitchen and a memorial room designed by architect Jože Plečnik. The house brings centuries-old traditions of candle-making and craftsmanship to life through workshops, exhibitions, and interactive programs for visitors of all ages.

Thematic relevance

Stele House provides exceptional value to the COMMHERITOUR project as an example of successful sustainable valorization of craftsmanship cultural heritage. Through its museum exhibitions, workshops, and experiential programs, it interprets the tradition of candle-making and lectar craft, dating back to 1701, connecting historical techniques with today’s visitors. This approach promotes knowledge transfer, raises awareness of local heritage crafts, and contributes to the development of cultural tourism in both rural areas and historic urban centers.
