The molds for trnič are connected to the shepherd tradition on Velika Planina, one of the oldest and best-preserved shepherd settlements in Europe. For centuries, shepherds on this plateau have been producing the distinctive trnič cheese, decorating it with wooden molds carved with symbols and ornaments. Each carver left a unique mark on their mold, traditionally made of linden wood, ensuring that every trnič cheese was slightly different. The original trnič molds are kept at the Kamnik Municipal Museum; the one presented here is a replica.
